Bank & Slope Mowers
Mowing grass on banks and slopes requires careful planning to ensure both safety and efficiency. Sloping terrain presents challenges such as uneven footing, the risk of tipping, and potential strain on the operator or machinery. It’s important to choose the right equipment for the job, such as a machine with good traction or a specialist slope mower designed for steep inclines. Using a machine with a low centre of gravity and wide wheelbase, such as our BCS 630WS and BCS 660HY, can help maintain stability, reducing the risk of slipping or rolling over.
For steeper banks, it is generally safer to mow across the slope rather than up and down, as this provides better control and minimizes the risk of losing grip. However, in extremely steep conditions, remote-controlled or tracked mowers, such as our Bluebird Remote Control mowers, may be a better option to remove the need for direct operator handling.
Regular maintenance of the equipment is also essential, ensuring blades are sharp and tyres or tracks are in good condition to maximize performance on uneven ground.
Additionally, environmental conditions play a key role in slope mowing. Wet grass can make surfaces slippery and increase the likelihood of accidents, so it’s best to mow when the grass is dry. If possible, carrying out mowing in stages, rather than attempting large areas in one go, can help prevent operator fatigue and ensure a consistent, high-quality cut. By using the right techniques and equipment, mowing slopes and banks can be done effectively and safely.

Brushcutters
Another option is a handheld brushcutter. These units make it possible to trim areas inaccessible with a walk-behind mower.
Brushcutters are available with either ‘loop’ or ‘cowhorn’ handlebars, and many models come with both a line head and a metal blade.
Petrol is the predominant power source, but as with most garden machinery now, battery versions are becoming more prevalent.
